A Girl was alone...

Maisie Williams finished filming "Game of Thrones" in July. She filmed right up to the end and was, by her own account, the #lastwomanstanding. (She took pains to say that wasn't a spoiler.) She said goodbye to the show, the city of Belfast, and her character of Arya Stark.

A few months later, Williams told The Guardian she's not in mourning for GoT or her character, because she got to say goodbye at the right time:

"I got to the end and I didn’t want more. I had exhausted every possible piece of Arya. And this season was quite big for me. I had a lot more to do. Mainly because there’s just less characters now, so everyone’s got more to do."

She told The Guardian her final scene as Arya was "beautiful":

"I ended on the perfect scene. I was alone – shocker! Arya’s always bloody alone. But I was alone and I had watched a lot of other people wrap. I knew the drill, I had seen the tears and heard the speeches. [Her own speech] wasn’t something I planned, but in that moment I realized what the show meant to me."

Williams said, after her final scene and speech, she went to her trailer to be alone for a while, then went out with some coworkers for a fancy mean and "a lot of sake."

Once "Game of Thrones" airs its final season next year, Williams will probably let us know which scene was that "perfect" final scene. They do film scenes out of order, so it's not necessarily the last scene we'll see featuring Arya. But

it's a good sign for Arya that Williams filmed right up to the end.

It's going to be a whole nostalgia tour with the cast and crew next year, once each episode airs and it's the last scene for this star, and then that character, etc. We've been warned that not everyone will be happy with how the show ends -- we're already worried for Dany -- but we're staying confident in the showrunners' storytelling.

"Game of Thrones" is adapting George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels, which have given us many, many welcome and unwelcome curveballs.

As Ramsay Bolton put it: "If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention."

But we are hoping for a fitting ending to this song.

"Game of Thrones" Season 8 will air on HBO next year. We don't have a specific air date yet -- or any official trailer, poster, photos, etc. -- but supposedly the six episodes will start airing in the first half of 2019.
