Louis C.K. Headlining Two Comedy Specials on Netflix
Netflix landed another big name in its quest for stand-up comedy dominance: Louis C.K.
The comedian has signed a deal for two comedy specials on the streaming service. The first, which was filmed in Washington, D.C., is titled "2017" and will premiere April 4.
The six-time Emmy winner follows in the footsteps of Chris Rock, Amy Schumer, Dave Chappelle, and Jerry Seinfeld, all of whom have partnered with Netflix. But it marks a bit of a departure for Louis C.K.; in recent years, he's released his comedy specials directly to fans on his website. He did the same with his surprise scripted comedy "Horace and Pete" (though he made a deal with Hulu to stream the series after its release).
"Louis has been one of the most innovative comedy voices in this new era of stand-up," said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix. "He has also been a thought leader in the business of comedy. We have marveled at his creativity and his ability to invent comedically and commercially, and are thrilled that he is bringing his newest specials to Netflix."
