Location Scout
Location Scout
Racking up frequent flyer miles is just one of the many perks of this glamorous job. Being a location scout entails traveling the world to find the perfect scenery during pre-production to help the actors and director bring a movie or television script to life.
What a location scout does: Before the actors even arrive on set, a location scout begins researching places to re-create scenes that wouldn't work if they were shot on a green screen or in a Hollywood studio.
Who relies on the location scout: A location scout reports to the director or executive producer, and helps to lock down a location before shooting begins. This entails pulling permits, obtaining insurance and working with local law enforcement to minimize disruption during filming.
How to become a location scout: The best way to snag your dream job is to work your way up the ladder as a production assistant or earn a film degree in college.
Networking: Most location scouts are members of the Location Managers Guild of America, an international organization dedicated to promoting awareness and mentoring up-and-comers.
