'Mulan' Fans Are Excited as Filming Begins, But Tweets Raised Concerns, Too
Disney's live-action version of "Mulan" hit an important milestone on Monday: Day 1 of production.
The news was accompanied by the first photo from the film, so as you can imagine, there has been a lot of chatter on Twitter. Overall, there seems to be a positive vibe -- people are loving Yifei Liu as the titular heroine -- with some concerns mixed in.
Let's focus on the good energy first. The excitement is real, especially now that camera are rolling. Huge swaths of the "Mulan" fandom are ready to see more of Liu, plus her co-stars Yoson An, Donnie Yen, Gong Li, and Jet Li.
At the same time, change is never easy, and some fans don't like the fact that some original "Mulan" characters won't be back, nor will the songs we know and love. It's a Shang- and Mushu-less world in the upcoming live-action remake, and we won't be "getting down to business." It's understandable that some people are sad.
Maybe more photos will help soothe fears. Let's hope Disney delivers again soon.
"Mulan" is set to hit theaters March 27, 2020.
