'Last Man Standing' Reveals Two Recast Roles for Fox Revival
"Last Man Standing" is trading one Molly for another.
The Tim Allen comedy is moving from ABC to Fox for Season 7, which starts this September.
Two roles have been recast for the revival: Mike and Vanessa Baxter's (Nancy Travis) middle daughter Mandy Baxter, and the Baxters' young grandson Boyd.
Molly McCook ("The Ranch"), 28, is taking over the role of Mandy from Molly Ephraim, 32. Executive producer Matt Berry explained why, during the TCA press tour:
"When the show was cancelled… [Molly Ephraim] got involved in some different things, so when [Last Man Standing] came back, she was not able to do it. It’s unfortunate. We love her deeply. She’s a big part of who we were. But [it’s] exciting for us to look around and see who we can get to play that character. We want someone to come in and not play Molly Ephraim. We want somebody to come in and play Mandy. We’ve seen a lot of great actresses."
(Left-leaning Molly Ephraim has taken some heat from the right for her decision to leave the show.)
Jet Jurgensmeyer will now play Boyd, taking over from Flynn Morrison.
Executive producer Kevin Abbott explained that change:
"We’re going to have a new actor [playing the role] because we want to age up the character. We’re bringing him back at the age of 12, so we can do some fun storylines about a young man on the cusp of becoming a man."
The new stars are clearly excited about joining the cast:
"Last Man Standing" Season 7 preimeres Friday, September 28, at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
