HBO is moving forward with a unique television project starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

The actor will make his TV acting debut with the upcoming limited series "Lake Success," Deadline reports. HBO now has the miniseries in the works, with author Gary Shteyngart adapting his 2018 novel with co-showrunner Tom Spezialy. The project is being produced by Nine Stories and Endeavor Content.

Gyllenhaal will both star in and executive produce the limited series. His character, Barry Cohen, is a hedge fund manager who takes off on a cross-country bus trip in the midst of an SEC investigation. His goal is to reconnect with his college girlfriend, in spite of the fact that he has a wife and a young son back home. Meanwhile, his wife, Seema, grapples with issues of her own.

This may be Gyllenhaal's first major TV role, but he is, of course, a very experienced actor. He most recently starred in Netflix's "Velvet Buzzsaw" and appears in the upcoming "Spider-Man: Far From Home." Some of his notable past films include "Nocturnal Animals," "Love & Other Drugs," and "Brokeback Mountain."

Not surprisingly, Gyllenhaal and fellow executive producer Riva Marker are excited about this new project. They described the story in a statement as "a beautifully executed character study highlighting the depth of human contradiction and complication."
