Keanu Reeves & Molly Ringwald Made a Romantic Thriller Called 'Siberia'
Our '80s dreams are complete.
"Siberia" just found a home with Saban Films, which acquired the movie's North American rights at Cannes. The romantic crime thriller stars Keanu Reeves, with Molly Ringwald in a smaller role as his wife.
The romance part doesn't seem to be between them, which is kind of a shame. Instead, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the romance is between Reeves' American diamond trader and a Russian cafe owner played by Ana Ularu.
Reeves plays Lucas Hill, who sells blue diamonds of dubious origin to buyers in Russia. As the deal quickly begins to disintegrate, he falls into an obsessive relationship with a Russian cafe owner in a small Siberian town while colliding with the treacherous world of the diamond trade.
Saban Films' Bill Bromiley praised the film while announcing the North American pick-up:
"'Siberia' is a fresh departure from your average love story, balancing the high-wire act of being a thriller with pacing that keeps you on your toes till the last frame. Everyone will love this."
Molly Ringwald talked to The Playlist about her small part in the movie, and working with her fellow '80s teen superstar:
"'Siberia' is a movie I shot with Keanu Reeves where I play his wife. I have a supporting role in that. I haven't seen it yet, but I had a great time working with him. He's a really nice guy. And, of course, I've been a big fan of his for a long time."
There's no set premiere date yet, in theaters or home release, but stay tuned.
