Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston's Surprise Wedding Was 'Terrible Plan'
Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston got married in a surprise wedding ceremony in early August — a real surprise to many of their guests.
The "Leftovers" actor revealed some inside wedding details to Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show today. The low-key ceremony in their backyard boasted a star-studded celebrity guest list, including DeGeneres and partner Portia de Rossi; Aniston's "Friends" alum Lisa Kudrow; John Krasinski and Emily Blunt; and officiant Jimmy Kimmel. Many of the guests were told that it was a birthday party for Theroux, which turned out to be "a massive miscalculation."
"Because we thought, like, we're gonna to tell some people this and some people that and then people that really have to that have busy schedules and whatever," he said. "So then afterwards, we kind of realized, like, that was a terrible plan, because you're basically telling half your guests, 'You're unemployed and we can't trust you,' which was of course not the case."
Of course, that led to very different types of attire among the guests. "There were people there who were just in jeans," he noted. "We also have friends who, when we've done barbecues and stuff, show up, like, dressed to the nines, like, 'This is the thing, right?' And we're like, 'No, this is actually just a barbecue.'"
While the surprise nature of the wedding might've led to some awkwardness, Theroux is just happy to be hitched and to finally be able to call Aniston his wife.
" 'Fiancée,' after a while, sounds cute at first," he said, "Then, you get to say, 'My wife.'"
