Julia Roberts Eyeing 'Homecoming' TV Drama From 'Mr. Robot' Creator
Julia Roberts wants all of the television roles now.
America's Sweetheart is in talks to star in a new drama from Sam Esmail, the creator of "Mr. Robot," according to Deadline.
The actress also recently signed on to headline the HBO limited series "Today Will Be Different," about a day in the life of a woman. These two projects mark Roberts' first television series in her career; she previously appeared in the TV movie "The Normal Heart."
"Homecoming" is based on the podcast of the same name, a fictional political thriller involving a therapist at a secret government facility (Roberts), her boss, and a recently-returned soldier. The podcast is a melange of phone calls, therapy sessions, and overheard conversations.
The original podcast featured Catherine Keener as the therapist, as well as a cast including Oscar Isaac, David Schwimmer, and Amy Sedaris.
"Homecoming" was already a hot property before Roberts' involvement, attracting A-list names. It has yet to find an outlet, but will undoubtedly do so after a major bidding war.
