Johnny Depp's Notorious B.I.G. Movie' City of Lies' Pulled a Month Before Release
Johnny Depp's next movie has been pulled from theatrical release with just a month to go.
"City of Lies" starred Depp as the detective investigating Notorious B.I.G.'s unsolved murder and was set to open in wide release September 7. Now, it's been taken off the schedule with no new date announced.
The original release date would've been Biggie Smalls' 46th birthday. The rapper died in 1997 in a drive-by shooting.
The movie was directed by Brad Furman ("The Lincoln Lawyer) and also stars Forest Whitaker as a journalist who teams up with Depp's detective.
Depp has had a difficult time recently. Last month, he was sued for allegedly punching location manager Greg “Rocky” Brooks on the film's Los Angeles set. Depp has not publicly commented on the lawsuit.
Not long after that lawsuit was filed, the actor settled a $25 million fraud suit with his former business managers. Depp was also the subject of a damaging Rolling Stone cover story that included bizarre revelations about his spending habits.
