'John Wick' Writer Hired for Movie Based on 'Just Cause' Video Game
Video game "Just Cause" is headed to the big screen.
Germany’s Constantin Film has acquired the movie rights to the video game franchise and hired "John Wick" creator Derek Kolstad to write the script.
Constantin Film’s Robert Kulzer and Prime Universe Films’ Adrian Askarieh will produce the movie with Kolstad, who wrote the three "John Wick" movies.
Kulzer is a producer on the "Resident Evil" franchise and Askarieh produced the "Hitman" movies.
The main character is Rico Rodriguez -- not to be confused with the "Modern Family" star of the same name we imagine -- who's on a race-against-time to stop the lethal mercenary group the Black Hand.
The series takes its name from the 1989 United States invasion of Panama, which was code-named Operation Just Cause.
It's expected to start filming in 2020.
The goal is not just to make one movie, but launch a new action franchise.
