Joe Dempsie Hints to Larger Role for Gendry in Final 'Game of Thrones' Season
From rowing to running -- we can't wait to see what's next for Gendry.
"Game of Thrones" Season 8. There are only six episodes to the final season, and Dempsie's Gendry just returned last season after a loooooong time spent rowing.
But not only is Gendry back, Dempsie told Digital Spy he's been doing "a fair bit" of filming for the final season:
"I've done well out of it this year, for sure. As with all these things, we never shoot in chronological order – so you might have people coming in at the beginning and at the end, but it doesn't necessarily mean they make it all the way through. [...]
Not even necessarily just from a character point-of-view, [but] from a personal point of view – to be stood there on the set when they're making that ending... that end game. So yeah, I'm very happy to be involved and be on set for Season 8."
Dempsie said he never took for granted that he'd be returning in Season 7 (never mind Season 8) even though that was always the showrunners' plan. He said he's glad to no longer be asked (daily, constantly) when Gendry will return to the show:
"However, there's a whole raft of new secrets that I now have to keep, so it never really lets up, the pressure to keep your mouth shut when it comes to anything to do with 'Game of Thrones.'"
We're hoping one secret he's keeping is a reunion between Gendry and Arya Stark. We'll find out when "Game of Thrones" Season 8 premieres in 2019 on HBO.
