Jimmy Kimmel Chokes Up Talking About Newborn Son's Heart Disease
Jimmy Kimmel Live!" that his newborn son has a serious heart condition.
In the show's opening monologue, Kimmel's voice shook as he shared the story of how his new son William, born April 21, was born with a heart disease.
"He appeared to be a happy, healthy baby until about three hours after he was born," Kimmel shared, then related how a perceptive nurse noticed the baby had a heart murmur and wasn't the right color.
Luckily, a heart surgeon was found right away to repair one of the defects in little Billy's heart and the operation was a success. Kimmel said his son would need another surgery in three to six months and then another operation in his teens to replace the heart valve he has now.
Kimmel shared photos of his son on Monday, with dozens of tubes attached, and then a happy, smiling photo of the baby from yesterday. He also shared a picture of William with his older sister and mom Molly.
He thanked all the staff at Cedars Sinai Hospital and Children's Hospital in Los Angeles by name and urged people to donate to Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
"Please say a prayer or send positive thoughts to the families with children who are still in the hospital now because they need it," Kimmel said, getting choked up.
He said he will be taking the taking the rest of the week off and guest hosts would be filling in for him.
We're sending all the hugs to Kimmel and his family.
