Longtime "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek has revealed that he's seriously considering retiring from the popular quiz show -- and his final sign-off could arrive very soon. In an interview with TMZ's Harvey Levin, Trebek said that he's been thinking more and more about retirement.

"Can you imagine a life without 'Jeopardy!'?" Levin asked Trebek during their sit-down.

"Sure," Trebek responded (a bit too quickly and coolly for our tastes).

While we surely can't imagine a life without Trebek on "Jeopardy!," the host said that once his contract expires in 2020, the odds of him returning are "50-50, and a little less." In fact, Trebek told Levin that he's already mentioned a possible replacement to the show's producers.

One possibility the host floated to take over his podium is Alex Faust, the play-by-play announcer for NHL team the Los Angeles Kings. When prompted to suggest a female replacement, Trebek cited Laura Coates, a legal analyst for CNN. Both personalities took to Twitter to declare their surprise and delight at Trebek's endorsement.

Famed "Jeopardy!" champ Ken Jennings also threw his hat into the ring for the job (providing he can scrub his social media profile, of course).

While even the thought of Trebek leaving "Jeopardy!" is enough to make us want to down a Daily Double shot of something, the 78-year-old host has certainly more than earned his retirement, especially after recent health problems. Still, no one can awkwardly rap like him, or ignore "Willy Wonka" like him, or correct someone's pronunciation of "Gangsta's Paradise" like him.
