Joey Lauren Adams Appears in 'Jay and Silent Bob Reboot' as 'Chasing Amy' Character
Another familiar face and character is part of "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot."
Joey Lauren Adams is once again reprising the role of Alyssa Jones, the character she originated in 1997's "Chasing Amy." Writer-director Kevin Smith made the announcement via Instagram Thursday and shared what an important role she played in the "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" origin story. He said that neither the 2001 original nor the upcoming reboot could have happened without her.
"Because we met, I made #chasingamy in the first place," he wrote in part, "and Amy is where the idea of #jayandsilentbob as the basis for #bluntmanandchronic originated."
"Chasing Amy" centered on comic artist Holden McNeil (Ben Affleck) falling in love with Alyssa and dealing with the fact that she identified as a lesbian. Holden happened to be one of the creators of the fictional "Bluntman and Chronic" comic books, which were inspired by his friends Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith). Both Affleck and Adams appeared in the spinoff film, with Adams making a cameo.
Smith has described the upcoming reboot as "literally the same f--king movie all over again," per Comicbook.com, so it makes sense that Adams would return. Production started in February, and Adams tweeted a photo Thursday showing that she'd been on set.
