"It: Chapter Two" screenwriter Gary Dauberman confirmed that the sequel will include a scene that was not in the 1990 TV miniseries.

"It is an iconic scene in the book and one we wanted to include in the movie," Dauberman told THR of the book's hate crime against a gay boy named Adrian Mellon (played by Xavier Dolan).

"It is the first attack in present-day Derry and sets the stage for what Derry has become," explained Dauberman. "It is the influence of Pennywise (Bill Skarsgard) even while he is hibernating, and it’s pure evil what happens to Adrian. These bullies working through Pennywise was important for us to show."

He also confirmed that adult Beverly (Jessica Chastain) will be the victim of domestic violence. We caught glimpses of her bruised arms in the trailer, where she revisits the apartment she lived in Derry.

It was strongly implied in first film that Beverly (played by Sophia Lillis) was sexually abused by her father as well. A controversial scene in the book, in which she has sex with the other members of the Losers Club, was cut from both the film and the miniseries.

As for how much we'll see of the young cast in flashbacks, Dauberman wouldn't elaborate. "Fans of the first film will be pleased. They’re definitely a presence in this movie," he told THR.

He added that 'Chapter Two' 'is "definitely bloodier than the first and it is just as scary, if not scarier. The two movies feel like a complete whole. This feels like a natural progression and extension of the first."

"It: Chapter Two" opens September 6.

The busy Dauberman is also making his directorial debut with "Annabelle Comes Home," which opens June 26.
