Is Thandie Newton Getting a Bigger Role in the Han Solo Movie?
Most of Ron Howard's cryptic photos from the set of the Han Solo movie haven't told us much, but he just shared a photo of Thandie Newton along with the news that she returned to film "some key new scenes."
Either those scenes are replacing old ones, or these are additional scenes that means she'll have a more prominent role in the standalone "Star Wars" film -- and perhaps a bigger presence in the franchise overall.
Speculation is high that she's playing Rae Sloane, an admiral in the Imperial Navy and commander of the Star Destroyer Vigilance. She does appear to be in uniform in this photo, with Howard possibly covering up a military patch on her arm.
Newton was cast in February, a few months before Howard signed on to replace fired co-directing team Lord and Miller. In reworking the film, Howard added Paul Bettany and eliminated the character played by Michael K. Williams, who was unable for reshoots.

The still untitled Han Solo movie, which stars Alden Ehrenreich as the cocky young smuggler, is set to open May 25, 2018.
