How the New Spider-Man Will Fit Into the Marvel Universe
The news that young British actor Tom Holland had been cast as the new Spider-Man kicked off quite a bit of talk about how the character would fit into the Marvel Universe. Holland will be introduced as Peter Parker in "Captain America: Civil War," as confirmed by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, who also clarified just how a "Spider-Man" movie will fit in with the rest of the Phase 3 films.
"We're producing it for Sony. It's exciting, and we're treating it like we treat all of our films," Feige told the Hollywood Reporter. "To try to make the best version now of Spider-Man and a version of Spider-Man that inhabits this universe that we've created. We're in lockstep with [Sony Motion Picture Group chairman] Tom Rothman and [producer] Amy Pascal at every turn."
Feige added, "We wouldn't want to do it if we couldn't do it in the way we've done all the other movies, and I think that's what Sony wants from us."
So, Spider-Man will be a key part of the Marvel-verse — and not just by writing the web slinger into "Captain America: Civil War" or "Avengers: Infinity Wars." Characters from Marvel movies could cross over into the standalone "Spider-Man" film.
"Specifics of the story aside, the agreement that has been made between Sony and Marvel is that we could do that," Feige noted.
Wonder what Aunt May would think of Iron Man? Maybe the Green Goblin and Hulk could trade skincare tips?
