Heath Ledger's Sister Remembers Late Actor Ahead of 10th Anniversary of His Death
It's hard to believe that it's been almost 10 years since the world lost Heath Ledger, who died of an accidental overdose on January 22, 2008 at the age of 28. Now, the late actor's sister is speaking out about her beloved brother ahead of that milestone anniversary, revealing how her family keeps his memory alive.
In an interview with WHO (via People), Kate Ledger said that she and her family are in regular contact with Michelle Williams, Heath's ex-fiancee, and their daughter Matilda, now 12. Matilda has helped the family through their grief, Ledger revealed, calling her niece "an amazing girl and a source of delight to us all."
And Kate said that she's constantly telling her own children -- who were quite young at the time of their uncle's passing -- stories about Ledger in order to keep him present in their lives.
"There's not a day that goes by that we don't share stories or talk about him," she said. "He is very much alive in our house."
Aside from personal stories, Kate revealed that it's through watching Heath on the big screen that her kids have come to know their uncle better -- though it's still a painful experience for her.
"It's especially difficult to see his moving images on screen and hear his voice—something which we as a family have had to learn to cope with constantly," she said. "But it's a blessing that we have all the images and footage so that we can share a part of him with our girls."
We're glad to have all of Ledger's films, too.
