HBO Orders Comedy Series Based on 'Skate Kitchen'
The "Skate Kitchen" fun is rolling on.
A new series based on the 2018 skateboarding film has landed a six-episode order from HBO, Variety reports. Called "Betty," it is penned by "Skate Kitchen" co-writer and director Crystal Moselle along with Leslie Arfin. Both are serving as executive producers, and Moselle is directing.
"Betty," like "Skate Kitchen," centers on a group of teen skateboarders living in New York City who are part of an all-girls collective that's inspired by a real group. We'll see a lot of familiar faces; Dede Lovelace (Janay), Rachelle Vinberg (Camille), Nina Moran (Kurt), Moonbear (Honeybear), and Ajani Russell (Indigo) have all returned to portray their characters from the movie, per Deadline.
A release date for the series hasn't been revealed yet, but production is underway in New York City. The series comes from Arfin Material and Untitled Entertainment. Executive producers include Moselle, Arfin, Igor Srubshchik, Jason Weinberg, RT Features' Rodrigo Teixeira, and Bow & Arrow Entertainment's Michael Sherman and Matthew. Lizzie Nastro and Kotva Films' Isabella Tzenkova are producing.
