Gwyneth Paltrow Is Bringing a Goop Series to Netflix
Aside from a handful of appearances in the MCU over the past few years, Gwyneth Paltrow has mostly remained missing from the big screen, preferring to focus on her lifestyle brand, Goop. And now, she's bringing that business to the world of streaming.
Variety has the scoop that Goop has just inked a deal to develop an original docuseries for Netflix, which "will utilize experts, doctors, and researchers to examine issues relating to physical and spiritual wellness." Each 30-minute episode of the as-yet-untitled project will be hosted by Paltrow, Goop chief content officer Elise Loehnen, and Goop.com editors.
In an interview with Variety, Loehnen explained that Goop is eager to use Netflix's generous budget to "dial up the aesthetics and quality of storytelling surrounding issues like mental, physical and sexual health — and address larger thematic questions the Goop audience has about leading optimal lives."
"With this show, I think [Paltrow is] only really interested in opportunities where we can uniquely be ourselves and do things potentially disruptive." Loehnen told the trade.
Goop is certainly already uniquely itself, famously making headlines for hawking outlandish (and scientifically questionable) products like jade vagina eggs. (On a side note, Jade Vagina Eggs would make a great title for this show.) We have a feeling that it will remain as eccentrically aspirational as ever with this new venture.
The series is expected to debut on Netflix sometime this fall.
