Guillermo Del Toro's 'Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark' Sets Release Date
Guillermo del Toro's "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark," based on the popular kids' book series, now has an official 2019 release date and a creepy new logo.
The film, which del Toro cowrote with the Hageman brothers ("Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia") is about a group of teens who try to solve a series of "sudden and macabre deaths" in their town. The cast includes Zoe Margaret Colletti ("Wildlife") and Dean Norris ("Breaking Bad").
It's based on the first of three children's horror story collections by Alvin Schwartz which were memorably (and disturbingly) illustrated by Stephen Gammell.
The movie is being directed by Norwegian filmmaker André Øvredal. We're guessing it'll be more along the lines of his PG-13 film "Trollhunter" than the R-rated (and underrated) "Autopsy of Jane Doe."
"Scary Stories" will hit U.S. theaters on August 9, 2019, which pits it against Disney's "Artemis Fowl."
