'Grey's Anatomy' Season 15: Owen Baby Confirmed, Meredith Romance Update
UPDATE: This back and forth is getting exhausting. After ABC's entertainment boss shot down the idea of Meredith Grey finding romantic love in "Grey's Anatomy" Season 15 (see below), co-showrunner Krista Vernoff reversed that call -- claiming Channing Dungey was just trying to avoid spoilers.
Vernoff told TVLine Mer will definitely be part of The Season of Love:
"Yes, [Meredith]’s a single mom, and that complicates a dating life. And yes, she’s a surgical marvel with new, game changing medical ideas she’ll be pursuing. But she also hasn’t dated at all since [Martin Henderson’s] Nathan Riggs left [in Season 13]. And the one-two punch of meeting [Scott Speedman’s] Nick Marsh awoke a desire in her that she can’t put back to sleep. The question this season, is not ‘Will Meredith Grey find love again,’ but ‘With whom will she find love?'"
Original post:
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 15 is The Season of Love, as we've heard, but Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) will save all her love for her kids and job.
Meanwhile, though, in case you were expecting a curveball, Kim Raver confirmed that Teddy is definitely pregnant with Owen's baby. It's not secretly someone else's. Here's more from Raver to TVLine on how that love triange/baby mama drama will play out:
"It will be complicated because of Owen and Amelia!" However, there will be "fun stories to tell within that [triangle] story… What I love about how [Teddy] is coming back again is it’s complex. Life is not simple, and that’s the fun of Grey’s."
While Owen is overwhelmed with options, Meredith is going to focus her attention elsewhere. Here's what ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey told TVLine:
“Meredith [is going to] have a new trajectory that is more focused on who she is as a single mother and surgeon, including an "emotional" investigation “into a medical condition that is very close to her own family background and history. Ellen has spoken very loudly about how she doesn’t want all of Meredith’s adventures to be romantic ones."
A certain medical condition. Should we be hearing alarm bells on that?
Ellen Pompeo has spoken out with frustration on Mer being forced from one romance to another, with Riggs showing up so quickly after Derek died. So as much as many fans (and TVLine) are hoping Scott Speedman returns as Dr. Nick Marsh, don't expect it anytime soon.
Dungey said she thought Meredith would get back into dating eventually. However:
"I’m just saying that she’s on a trajectory that is very much about her evolution as a doctor and a parent. There’s been a lot of dating, and I think [Ellen’s] excited — we’re all excited — to explore some different aspects of the character."
That is pretty refreshing. Her kids could use more attention! And everyone else is already deep in the love groove, from Jolex to Jaggie, Omelia + Teddy, and ... well, not Arizona or Japril anymore. #sad
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 15 has a two-hour premiere airing Thursday, September 27 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
