'Grey's Anatomy' Is Moving Ben Warren to Firefighter Spinoff, But What About Bailey?
Dr. Ben Warren ("Grey's Anatomy" to the new firefighter spinoff, and how that transition happens will be a key part of his Season 14 storyline.
Season 14 premieres Thursday, Sept. 28 on ABC, picking up from the literally explosive Season 13 finale. In that finale, Ben got his firefighter groove on to help save Dr. Stephanie Edwards (Jerrika Hinton). That episode saw Stephanie decide she'd had enough and leave Grey Sloan, and it's possible Ben will be shown to have had a similar epiphany. Maybe he's ready for still another career change?
If so, what does that mean for his marriage to Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson)?
Well, The Hollywood Reporter shared the scoop that Jason George's character is joining the spinoff, but they added that he would stay a series regular on Season 14 until production on the spinoff began; they also said his casting did not mean he couldn't continue to "pop in and out" of "Grey's Anatomy." So if Dr. Warren stops working at Grey Sloan, maybe he can still swing by for personal home visits with Bailey, so they don't have to split up. (There's no word on whether Chandra Wilson's Bailey will be popping in and out of the spinoff.)
Actor Jason George tweeted out the news on Tuesday:
Oh, and , um,...this is happening...

The firefighter spinoff currently stars Jaina Lee Ortiz in the lead role. It was previously suggested that none of the original "Grey's" characters would be moving over to the spinoff -- despite the Season 13 finale leaving the door wide open for Ben Warren's move. Apparently adding Warren was a fairly recent decision from Shonda Rhimes.
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 14 has a two-hour premiere on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. on ABC. The firefighter spinoff does not have a set premiere date yet.
