'Grey's Anatomy': Alex Will Be a 'Delightfully Different' Chief
The two-episode "Grey's Anatomy" Season 15 premiere ended with Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) as the new interim chief.
He's the boss.
And it's going to be fun.
Just seeing Alex twirl his chair around behind Bailey's (Chandra Wilson) desk was fun. Just seeing Meredith Grey's (Ellen Pompeo) consternation that he is her new boss was fun.
All in all, the Jolex honeymoon didn't turn out as planned, but it ended very well for both of them. Thanks to Bailey. Bailey invented a position for Jo (Camilla Luddington) to do her research (poaching Meredith's idea), and Bailey kept Alex around by giving him her own job. At least temporarily.
"Grey's" showrunner Krista Vernoff talked with THR about what's ahead, including under the reign of interim Chief Karev.
THR: Speaking of interim chief, how will Alex be a different chief than the ones we've seen before? How will Alex being a leader shake things up?
Krista Vernoff: It's delightfully different. Justin Chambers just lights this story up. In many ways, he was the least likely candidate for the job — which is why we loved it so much when we landed on it in the room after days of discussing the various possibilities. It feels entirely different than the chiefs we've seen before — and Justin wears the suit well.
Yes. As much as we love Chief Bailey, this should be interesting.
Vernoff also teased some other details, like what's ahead for Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) and his newfound sense of life:
"It's too fun to spoil."
Hmmm. Also, we're already worried even though she refused to answer the question "Will there be a death of a series regular this season?"
"Ha! Nice try! No way I'm answering that."
We are worried about Richard (James Pickens Jr.) at the moment, and Vernoff warned that he is on "a slippery slope right now."
