Golden Globes 2016: Here's What Ricky Gervais Said to Mel Gibson That Got Him Bleeped
The censors at NBC were working overtime during Sunday night's Golden Globes ceremony, bleeping seemingly every other word uttered by presenters and winners throughout the telecast. But one especially saucy exchange had us particularly intrigued: Just what did Ricky Gervais say to Mel Gibson that was so foul, the entire question was muted?
Turns out it was a pretty NSFW query concerning Gibson's infamous alcohol-fueled meltdown back in 2006, in which he was arrested for drunk driving, went on an anti-Semitic tirade, and called a law enforcement officer a sexist name. Not exactly the stuff that comedy routines are made of. But when Gibson showed up on Sunday to present the highlight reel for Best Picture nominee "Mad Max: Fury Road," Gervais couldn't help but bring up the uncomfortable subject, leading to the bleeped-out exchange that had audiences scrambling to read the host's lips.
Social media sleuths (and some viewers watching in foreign countries, where the broadcast was aired bleep free) figured it out soon enough: Gervais asked Gibson, "What the f--k does 'sugar tits' even mean?"
Truly, a question for the ages. Check out the uncensored clip below.
