George Clooney Returning to TV in Hulu's Catch-22'
George Clooney is returning to his TV roots. Hulu has ordered a six-episode "Catch-22" limited series, which Clooney will star in, direct, and produce.
The adaptation of Joseph Heller's seminal 1961 novel is written by Luke Davies and David Michôd. Clooney's producing partner Grant Heslov will also direct.
The satirical story is set in Italy during World War II and centers on U.S. Air Force Captain John Yossarian, an U.S. Air Force bombardier. His boss, Colonel Cathcart (Clooney), ups the number of missions his men must fly before their service is up. Yossarian wants to get out of flying, but can only do so if he claims insanity. But the very act of requesting removal from duty shows a rational concern for safety ... meaning the man is sane and must fly.
This is Clooney's first TV series regular role since he left "E.R." in 1999. He joins Hulu when the streaming service is riding high, having just won Golden Globes for "The Handmaid's Tale."
