'Game of Thrones' Reactions: Season 8, Episode 5 the Worst Episode Ever?
The fight for King's Landing finally happened in "Game of Thrones" Season 8, Episode 5, and oh, was it big one.
Now that fans have seen the show's penultimate episode, there is a lot of talk about it on social media. The long-awaited showdown went differently than many expected, and it has proven to be super controversial. While there are people who enjoyed it, there's also a sizable contingent decrying it.
There are spoilers from the episode "The Bells" ahead, so read on at your own risk!
Fans had a number of complaints about the episode, from Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) unleashing fire and fury on King's Landing after the people surrendered to Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) dying in the arms of the man who loved her. The phrase "worst episode ever" was frequently mentioned in tweets after the episode aired. Very, very frequently.
That was by far, the worst episode EVER of @GameOfThrones I never thought I'd actually say this, about the one show I actually really love... ANTI CLIMAX!!! #GameofThrones#demthones#ThronesYall

I love Game of Thrones... but that was probably the worst episode ever. Thoughts? #GOT

SPOILERS. I am furious. That was the worst episode ever. I liked Daenereys. Now I want her dead fast. The fact they're rushing the story to an end kills me it's very evident. I have no idea what the general reception was yet I'm back from a 24h blackout. I'm so mad #GameofThrones

@GameOfThrones the worst episode ever, Cersei deserved a better death, it has been patetic, this show had become very very disappointing. #Shame

I never thought I’d say this about the best TV on Tv #GameofThrones but this was the worst episode ever. We could have had this last season instead of dragonstone and fought the night king this season... I’m perturbed!

Game of thrones episode 5 did really exceed all my expectations, I never thought it will be this awful.

This was literally the worst episode ever, Cersei deserved a way better death and so did Jaime, And Dany wtf were the writers on ruined a lot of characters story and redemption just for shock value? Disappointing. #GameOfThrones#GoT#GOT8x05 "arya" "drogon" "jon" pic.twitter.com/WasArGXVhf

Perhaps the worst season in television history. They've really outdone themselves this time and made the worst episode ever. #GameofThrones

And yet, for all those criticisms, there were words of encouragement, too. Some fans spoke out in defense of "The Bells," with many arguing that people should have seen this coming.
I think we should pump the brakes on “worst episode ever” stuff with #GameofThrones ... Dany has been saying at various times over the past 8 seasons that she’s gonna “melt King’s Landing to the ground” or “Break the wheel” we shouldn’t be surprised when she follows through

Have all the people complaining this was “the worst episode ever” even seen #GameofThrones? Just like real life, not every character ends with hearts & rainbows. Sometimes you become what you’ve been fighting.

Y’all need to stop saying “that was the worst episode ever”
Y’all may not of liked what Happened (coz same) but that was a bomb ass episode. #gameofthrones— keegan stokes (@Altrnativebaybe) May 13, 2019
I am going to put out the popular opinion that Game of Thrones was was pretty great tonight and not ruined and the worst episode ever #GameofThrones

I genuinely want to know why people have disliked this episode so much. All I read before watching this episode was discontent and disappointment. Can anybody tell me what was wrong with it because I thought it was spectacular #GameofThrones

People complaining about #GameofThrones like they haven't been teasing this heal turn for the last 7 season.... its fantasy, chill out and enjoy the ride.

Cleganebowl was worth the wait for this cool-ass shot ??? #GameOfThronespic.twitter.com/5f24fETP5J

Also, people should just enjoy the show for what it is rather than scrutinising every little aspect of it. Shows like this don’t come around often #GameOfThrones
— Matthew Brown (@__MatthewBrown) May 13, 2019
I honestly think some of the criticism for #GameofThrones now comes from us wanting things to be simple and obvious & black and white. I have plenty of complaints this week, but some things make sense if you look more closer.

Regardless of whether people loved it or hated it, we expect they'll tune in for the series finale. The final episode of "Game of Thrones" airs Sunday, May 19 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
