'Game of Thrones' Actor Teases Night King's Motives
The Night King is a scary and mysterious villain, but at least one of those descriptors may become less true in "Game of Thrones" Season 8.
Actor Vladimir Furdik recently discussed his character with Entertainment Weekly and teased his role in the final season of the HBO series. It seems we'll finally get to learn more about what makes him tick and what has driven him beyond the Wall. Furdik indicated that he's after a specific being -- one we assume is a person.
"People will see he has a target he wants to kill, and you will find out who that is," Furdik told EW.
The actor didn't reveal who that target is, of course, but he did promise an interesting interaction with Jon Snow (Kit Harington). He reminded viewers of a specific moment in Season 5, Episode 8, "Hardhome," when "the Night King looked at [Jon] and raised his arms." In Season 8, we'll see "a similar and even stronger moment between Jon and the Night King this time," Furdik said.
For his part, Furdik thinks the Night King wants revenge. He acknowledged that "somebody made him the Night King" and "he never wanted to be the Night King" but said there isn't good left in him.
"Everybody in this story has two sides -- a bad side and a good side," Furdik said. "The Night King only has one side, a bad side."
Whatever his motives and his goal, we expect to see the Night King in action. The final season features an epic battle that took 55 nights to film, and Furdik is quite the stuntman. He started playing the character in Season 6, after Richard Brake had the role during Seasons 4 and 5. Before that, Furdik performed stunts on the show, doing everything from horse falls to fire drops to sword fights. He even portrayed the first White Walker that Jon ever killed.
"Game of Thrones" Season 8 premieres Sunday, April 14 on HBO.
