When will the eighth and final season of "Game of Thrones" air? That is a question many fans would like answered.

The showrunners and HBO have indicated that Season 8 may not even air in 2018, which would mean a very long break after the current seventh season. We got a new clue about the premiere date, though, thanks to Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister.

In an interview with Collider, Coster-Waldau said of the last hurrah: "I don't know what's going to happen next season. We go back in October, so maybe in the next few weeks, we'll get the scripts and I'll find out. I'm very curious."

OK, October! That's a bit of a late start. Season 7 began filming in August 2016 and production ran for about six months — the same time span as previous seasons, even though there are fewer episodes (seven vs. the usual 10).

Though Season 8 is even shorter, with just six episodes, it seems likely production will run about the same length of time. That means it'll wrap around April 2018. Add in post-production work and the earliest Season 8 could premiere is September 2018.

If that tracks, "Game of Thrones" would likely take HBO's fall Sunday night spot (this year, taken by new drama "The Deuce" starting Sept. 10).

Still a long wait, but better than 2019!
