'Game of Thrones' Season 7 Had the Least, But Most Equal, Amount of Nudity
"Game of Thrones" Season 7 was the shortest so far, and it also had the fewest naked characters. However, it was the first season to have an equal 50/50 ratio of male/female naughty bits. Maybe that's what happens when you have queens in power?
Broadly has been keeping track of every instance of death, rape, and nudity on GoT. Since Season 8 will only have six episodes, it's likely that Season 1 is going to retain its title as the most nude season. (Season 1 also tied Season 4 for the most rapes.) However, Season 2 had the highest female ratio, with every nude body being female and none male. Women have better luck when it comes to staying alive, though, with Broadly's count of onscreen deaths showing only 5.8 percent of them have been women.
Here's a breakdown of the nudity, season by season:
- Season 1: 33 naked people (88% women, 12% men)
- Season 2: 16 naked people (100% women, 0% men)
- Season 3: 19 naked people (79%, 21% men)
- Season 4: 23 naked people (91% women, 9% men)
- Season 5: 28 naked people (68% women, 32% men)
- Season 6: 22 naked people (91% women, 9% men)
- Season 7: 6 naked people (50%, 50% men)
And here's Broadly's methodology to get those stats:
"I wanted to count both men and women's nipples with equal weight, but it's clear that this show doesn't value them the same way. I counted women as naked if they bared at least one nipple, their buttocks, or genitals. I counted men as naked if they exposed their buttocks or genitals. This graph illustrates the percentages each season contributed to the 144 total naked people, as well as their percentage breakdowns by gender."
Here's the graph:
It's fitting that the season that introduced Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow, and ended with their first love scene, also had the first equal amount of nudity. You break that wheel!
"Game of Thrones" Season 8 is now in pre-production, with that final season airing in either 2018 or 2019.
