'Game of Thrones' Opening Credits Sequence Gets a 3D/VR Makeover
Now, you can explore Winterfell and King's Landing in detail, thanks to a new 3D, 360-degree immersive version of the "Game of Thrones" opening credits.
The sequence is beloved by fans for its intricate, clockwork-like depictions of major locations in the show. Now, HBO has teamed up with Facebook, Oculus, and design firm Elastic to create expand it for virtual reality. As you watch the map zoom in to familiar cities, click and drag to get closer looks at Meereen's winged Harpy, the Titan of Braavos, and the coiled snake of Dorne.
When "Game of Thrones" season 6 premieres on April 24, the drama will likely unveil new opening credits to reflect new locations — perhaps they will introduce Vaes Dothrak, where Daenerys Targaryen is taken, and return to the Iron Islands, as the Greyjoys will have greater prominence this season.
