'Game of Thrones' Star Kit Harington Predicts 'Really Cool Scene' When Jon's Background Is Revealed
A possibly game-changing piece of information was finally confirmed in the "Game of Thrones" Season 7 finale, but two key characters remain in the dark.
There are spoilers from Season 7 ahead, so read on only if you are caught up!
While Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) were busy consummating their alliance in Episode 7, "The Dragon and the Wolf," Sam Tarly (John Bradley) and Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright), realized an important fact: Jon is not only Dany's nephew but her brother's legitimate son. As such, the man we always thought was a Stark bastard actually has a stronger claim on the Iron Throne than Daenerys does.
That news is going to have some interesting repercussions, and like the rest of us, Harington is very interested to see how it will play out. While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he recalled a conversation he had with Clarke about what it will be like when their characters learn the truth of their family ties.
"I said to Emilia it's going to be a really cool scene when they find out," he told the publication.
It should certainly be dramatic. "Game of Thrones" showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss teased in an "Inside the Episode" video that the news "complicates everything" on multiple levels. For their part, Harington and Clarke both seem to think it could be a mess, as well.
"I've worked so hard, I don't want to share that throne," Clarke told EW.
Meanwhile, Harington didn't want to make a definitive prediction. The actor didn't rule out the possibility of the two Targaryens "walking off into the sunset," but he didn't discount the idea of them killing each other, either. Both options do seem very possible.
As awkward as the truth will be for them, the Army of the Dead got through the Wall in the finale, so their incestuous relationship is actually a small concern in comparison.
"Game of Thrones" Season 8 will conclude the series in 2018 or 2019.
