FX has jettisoned the showrunners of its long-awaited upcoming series adaptation of the comic books "Y: The Last Man."

Aida Croal and Michael Green on Monday announced their exit on Twitter, saying, "FX has decided not to move forward with our series in its current form."

The split was reportedly due to creative differences. The network will move forward with the show, with the same cast in place.

Created by writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Pia Guerra, "Y: The Last Man" is set in a time when an apocalyptic plague has wiped out every mammal with a Y chromosome — except for a wannabe escape artist named Yorick Brown, who is the last man on Earth. His monkey, Ampersand, is the only surviving male mammal.

New Line attempted to develop the comics into a movie, but when that project went nowhere, Vaughan reacquired the rights and took it to FX. The network shot a pilot and ordered the project to series in February.

The series stars Diane Lane, Barry Keoghan, Amber Tamblyn, Imogen Poots, Lashana Lynch, Juliana Canfield and Marin Ireland.
