First 'Solo: A Star Wars' Trailer Premiering Soon, May Be Teased During Super Bowl
The young Han Solo is ready to make his entrance.
The highly-anticipated first trailer for "Solo: A Star Wars Story" will reportedly debut Monday on "Good Morning America." Director Ron Howard also hinted at Monday's reveal by retweeting a fan's comment about which team would win the Super Bowl: "Who cares I'm going to be watching GMA Monday. Need my rest."
There is also a ton of speculation that Lucasfilm and Disney will run a 30-second teaser during the Super Bowl ahead of the trailer premiere. Of course, the Super Bowl is the most-watched telecast of any year and the commercials that run it have become their own phenomenon. A 30-second ad cast cost $5 million.
Movie commercials airing during this year's Super Bowl include "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom," the Dwayne Johnson thriller "Skyscraper," and "Mission: Impossible - Fallout." Disney itself is likely to run trailers for "Avengers: Infinity War" and "A Wrinkle in Time."
A Monday debut for the "Solo" trailer means it could run in previews with "Black Panther," which opens Feb. 16.
"Solo" has been shrouded in secrecy, particularly since the original directors were fired and Howard came on board. The project has been plagued with rumors about star Alden Ehrenreich, the amount of reshot scenes by Howard, and the tone of the film. There's been no poster and no official images aside from behind-the-scenes social media posts by Howard.
Lucasfilm only recently released the official synopsis:
Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in "Solo: A Star Wars Story," an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a seres of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga's most unlikely heroes.
"Solo: A Star Wars Story" opens in theaters May 25.
