First 'Game of Thrones' Season 8 Photo Shows Daenerys and Jon Getting Very Close
All hail the king and queen!
The first image from the eighth and final season of "Game of Thrones" shows Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) snuggled up on the cover of Entertainment Weekly. And it's clear winter has truly, finally arrived in Westeros.
Co-executive producer Bryan Cogman, who wrote the second episode of the final season, provided some insight into the conclusion of the HBO fantasy epic based on author George R.R. Martin's sprawling novels.
"It’s about all of these disparate characters coming together to face a common enemy, dealing with their own past, and defining the person they want to be in the face of certain death,” Cogman said.
Seeing Jon and Dany in such a close and seemingly romantic embrace indicates their relationship, which they consummated in the Season 7 finale, will continue to grow. Of course, they'll face many obstacles — their unknown familial relationship (she's his aunt) and the hordes of white walkers invading from the North.
“It’s an incredibly emotional haunting bittersweet final season and I think it honors very much what [Martin] set out to do — which is flipping this kind of story on its head.”
