Fans React to Batwoman & Gotham City Joining Arrowverse in 2018 Crossover
The CW held its upfront presentation today, and teased the annual Arrowverse crossover event.
"Arrow" star Stephen Amell shared the big news himself:
"We're incredibly excited to announce that we'll be doing another crossover event this fall on the CW, and we'll be introducing a new character. For the very first time appearing, we'll be fighting alongside Batwoman, which is terrific. The crossover is going to make it to air in December. I need to leave right now and start filming it."
The CW boss Mark Pedowitz confirmed that they're "adding the city of Gotham into the Arrowverse," describing the crossover as "another full-throttled, action-packed event."
The DC Comics character of Batwoman, aka Kate Kane, was reimagined in New 52. Kate happens to be a Jewish lesbian, which has a lot of fans excited (or wary) for more on-screen representation.
This will be the first time we're seeing Gotham in the Arrowverse, after its existence was teased a few times -- including when Oliver Queen name-droped Bruce Wayne. This will also be the first time any screen has shown Batwoman, Pedowitz noted.
Fans have strong hopes and fears for The CW's take on Batwoman:
So... pretty excited to fight alongside Batwoman.

#Batwoman is too important, she is iconic. It's the first time we are getting a live version of the character. I don't beg but I beg you, @TheCW, make her right. Respect her story. Choose the right actress. Don't screw it up, please!

No, CW
N O
It's not the right venue for the serious nature of her kind of character
I will NOT tolerate a dumbed down story for Batwoman
I will NOT tolerate the CW's track record with lesbians
Not for Kate. Not. for. her.

Implications of Batwoman coming to CW are off the charts. If this is a backdoor for a potential series...holy moley. #cwupfront#Arrowverse

my comic fan self is super excited for batwoman to be introduced in the arrowvers but i'm also worried because i don't trust the cw and i don't want them to ruin the character

So they're introducing Batwoman in the crossover. If this isn't related to Maggie it's going to be another slap in the face.

Not sure where Batwoman will fit into the DC/CW universe, but if she ends up having her own show, she'd be a new lesbian lead.

If Jamie Alexander wasn't busy with Blindspot, I'd say she' d make a good Batwoman.

The Arrowverse's butchering of the Black Canary mantle is an example of why they should be the LAST ones to bring us Kate.
Bring her to the @TheDCUniverse tv shows! pic.twitter.com/8maZDJkysf

The crossover will air in December, and we'll be hearing a lot more about it -- including casting -- in the months to come.
Meanwhile, The CW just revealed its fall 2018-2019 schedule, moving "Supergirl" to Sundays and "Arrow" to Mondays.
