Erinn Hayes Confirms She Was 'Let Go' From 'Kevin Can Wait,' as Leah Remini Promoted
Season 2 of "Kevin Can Wait" will include a lot more "King of Queens" and no more Erinn Hayes. Right after it was announced that Leah Remini would be joining the CBS sitcom as a series regular in Season 2 -- returning to her role as police officer Vanessa Cellucci, opposite her old "The King of Queens" co-star Kevin James -- it was revealed that Hayes would not be returning for Season 2 as Kevin's wife Donna.
Apparently Hayes leaving is part of a creative reboot for the show, TVLine said, and even though it's not clear how they will write off her character, the Season 1 finale ended with Donna quitting her job as a school nurse when she was passed up for promotion. Kevin had just finished up a temporary return to the police force to work undercover with his old partner (played by Remini).
Erinn Hayes addressed the news by retweeting a Deadline story and confirming that she didn't ask to leave the show, she was "let go":
True, I've been let go from the show. Very sad, I had a great experience season 1. Thank you for all the support from our wonderful fans. https://t.co/HfYKzVuSnT

At least Leah Remini is happy to be reunited with her old "King of Queens" hubby:
"Kevin Can Wait" Season 2 premieres September 25 on CBS.
