You Can See Edgar Wright's 'Baby Driver' Sooner Than You Thought
Good news! You have nearly two less months to wait for the new Edgar Wright movie, "Baby Driver." The heist flick, which wowed 'em at SXSW, will now be released on June 28 instead of August 11.
Sony announced the news at CinemaCon in Las Vegas yesterday, Variety reports. Now the music-fueled comedy-drama will go up against box-office heavyweight "Transformers: The Last Knight" and Sofia Coppola's Civil War drama "Beguiled" (which open June 23), as well as "Despicable Me 3", the Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler comedy "The House", and "Amityville: The Awakening" (which open June 30).
With its original release date, it would have have opened against New Line's horror sequel "Annabelle 2" and be in competition with another genre film, "Wind River," a murder mystery from "Hell or High Water" director Taylor Sheridan that opens August 4.
Wright and "Baby Driver" stars Ansel Elgort and Jon Hamm appeared to promote the film and introduce the first six minutes.
Elgort headlines the film as a getaway driver who's coerced into working for a mob boss (Kevin Spacey). It co-stars Lily James, Jamie Foxx, and Jon Bernthal. "Baby Driver" took home an audience award at SXSW.
