Dwayne Johnson Shares 'Twisted' Look at Hobbs in 'Fast 8,' Confirms 'Doc Savage'
Luke Hobbs is back in action in "Fast 8," and so is that one-man marketing machine, Dwayne Johnson.
The Rock has been promoting his new movies "Central Intelligence" and "Baywatch" on social media, and he just confirmed he'll play comic book character Doc Savage. But he also took time to post his own exclusive first look at his character in "Fast 8" -- teasing a bright future for the "new version" of Hobbs, including talks of a spinoff movie.
Here's what he wrote with the photo below:
EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK: #HOBBS #F8
When you strip a man of all he has. All that's important to him. You force him to return to his roots.. and sometimes that's a very dangerous and twisted place. If I was going to return for another FAST & FURIOUS I wanted to come in and disrupt the franchise in a cool way that got fans fired up and their blood pumping to see a new version of Hobbs and his "Daddy's gotta go to work" mentality and set the table in a cool way for where the character goes in the future.
Maybe it's a spinoff movie. Maybe it's more #FF movies. Or hell maybe Hobbs just gets on his motorcycle and rides off into the sunset never to be seen again.
Either way, I've had a solid first week of shooting, good to be back with the ohana, good to work again w/ my bud and director F. Gary Gray and our home studio of UNIVERSAL, as always have been the best partners to me and my #SevenBucksProds team. Most importantly... you guys around the world will really dig this new version of the role, 'cause as we always say, disrupters dent the universe.

When a fan requested a spinoff movie right away, Johnson's reply suggested it's already in the works:
Haha one fine day. Discussions have been aces. #Hobbshttps://t.co/RczGHmQ3sk

The franchise already has release dates for the next two films, with "Fast 10" scheduled for April 2, 2021. So we'll have to wait and see if/when a Hobbs movie gets scheduled. The rest of the "Fast 8" cast seems to be having a good time at the start of filming, based on a recent behind-the-scenes video.
And if you want more on "Doc Savage," Johnson is happy to oblige, sharing details on his plan to play the "F*CKING HILARIOUS WEIRDO!" in Shane Black's upcoming superhero film:
"Fast 8" is scheduled for release April 14th, 2017.
