Disney's 'Descendants' Sequel in the Works
Disney's hit teen movie "Descendants" has been given the green light for a sequel.
The network issued a statement Thursday to announce that much of the same team behind the first film, including screenwriters Sara Parriott and Josann McGibbon who will also serve as executive producers on the project, have a second coming in the pipeline.
The Disney Channel original movie premiered in July to record numbers, ranking the Kenny Ortega-directed film as the cable channel's fifth highest-rated movie of all-time.
The story is a live-action modern-day adventure about the teenage sons and daughters of Disney's most infamous villains, starring Dove Cameron as Mal, Cameron Boyce as Carlos, Booboo Stewart as Jay, Sofia Carson as Evie, Mitchell Hope as Ben, Tony Award-winning Kristin Chenoweth as Maleficent, Wendy Raquel Robinson as Cruella de Vil, Maz Jobrani as Jafar, Kathy Najimy as the Evil Queen, Melanie Paxson as Fairy Godmother, Brenna D'Amico as Jane, Sarah Jeffery as Audrey, Zachary Gibson as Doug, Jedidiah Goodacre as Chad Charming, and Dianne Doan as Lonnie.
In the U.S., Disney Channel holds the record of presenting six of the Top 7 original cable movies ever ("High School Musical 2," "Teen Beach Movie," "Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie," "Descendants," "Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension" and "Camp Rock").
