Director Joseph Kosinski to Direct Netflix's 'Spiderhead' After 'Top Gun: Maverick'
"Top Gun: Maverick" director Joseph Kosinski has booked his next project before he's even done with the fighter pilot sequel.
Netflix has hired Kosinski to direct "Spiderhead," an adaptation of the George Saunders short story. The script comes from "Zombieland" and "Deadpool" writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who also penned the upcoming Netflix movie "6 Underground" starring Ryan Reynolds.
The project is on the fast track for Kosinski to start working on as soon as he finishes post-production on "Top Gun: Maverick," the long-awaited sequel that brings back original stars Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer in the roles they played in the 1986 original.
"Spiderhead" is set in the near future, when convicts are offered the chance to volunteer as medical subjects in hopes of shortening their sentences. When one prisoner finds himself the test patient for a new pharmaceutical capable of generating feelings of love, he begins questioning the reality of his emotions and sets out to discover the truth.
