Producer Says 'Deadpool' Will Be Rated 'Hard R': 'It's Graphic'
There have been promises before that "Deadpool" will be a different breed of superhero movie, and that includes the film's rating. Star Ryan Reynolds has said in the past that the flick will be rated R, and now, producer Simon Kinberg is doubling down on that declaration.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, in which he also debuted a new "Deadpool" photo (see below), Kinberg said that audiences would not be disappointed in the colorful, foul-mouthed hero's onscreen representation.
"'Deadpool' is a hard R," Kinberg told EW. "It's graphic. Nothing is taboo. You either commit to a truly outrageous boundary-pushing kind of movie or you don't."
In fact, the flick is so dark that its director, Tim Miller (making his feature debut), linked it to a surprising source of inspiration.
"I felt 'Fight Club' and Tyler Durden were good corollaries," Miller told EW. "We are in strip clubs and dive bars and crappy apartments and far away from the shiny X-Men world."
Check out a new photo from the flick below. "Deadpool" is due in theaters on February 12.
