Dave Bautista Comedy 'My Spy' Delayed Until 2020
"My Spy," a family-friendly comedy starring Dave Bautista, has been abruptly moved from its August 23 release date to 2020.
Variety reports that the studio STX Films is looking for a new date in the first quarter of next year. It could open as early as January, one of the insiders told the outlet.
"My Spy" finds Bautista (best known as Drax from "Guardians of the Galaxy") playing a hardened CIA operative who has bungled a few intelligence operations. And he goes undercover in a last-ditch surveillance operation, only to get busted by a little girl (Chloe Coleman). She forces him to teach her spycraft — or is he the one taking notes from her?
According to Variety, the movie was drawing comparisons to the Arnold Schwarzenegger’s "Kindergarten Cop," but the studio wanted buffer time between it and Bautista's buddy comedy "Stuber," which opens Friday.
