The mysteries of the Star Wars universe need time to unravel, so patient, we must be.

Although fans might wish Daisy Ridley would commit to playing Rey beyond "Star Wars: Episode IX," the actress has given contradictory responses when discussing her future in the franchise. Ridley chatted with Rolling Stone about the prospect of reprising her role beyond the current trilogy's conclusion, and she at first seemed very much opposed to the idea.

"I am really, really excited to do the third thing and round it out, because ultimately, what I was signing on to was three films," she told Rolling Stone. "So in my head, it's three films. I think it will feel like the right time to round it out."

That said, when asked about making more Star Wars films in 30 years, her "no" became less convincing. Her answer changed to "Who knows?" and even "sure. Maybe." That said, she is not at all confident we'll even be alive for the movie to be made.

"I honestly feel like the world may end in the next 30 years, so, if in 30 years we are not living underground in a series of interconnected cells ... then sure. Maybe," she said. "But again, it's like, who knows."

With so many conflicting comments in there, we won't even try to place our bets. We're going to have to wait and see.

For now, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" hits theaters on Dec. 15.
