Cinemax Orders Bruce Lee-Inspired Drama 'Warrior'
An idea hatched by Bruce Lee over three decades ago is finally coming to life on Cinemax.
The network ordered a 10-episode season of "Warrior," inspired on an idea Lee wrote about in private journals. "Fast and Furious" director Justin Lin and "Banshee" co-creator Jonathan Tropper is executive producing.
They're partnering with Lee's daughter, Shannon, who found a trove of handwritten notes about the project after her father's death in 1973.
"Warrior" is described as a "gritty, action-packed crime drama set during the brutal Tong Wars of San Francisco's Chinatown in the second half of the 19th century." A martial arts prodigy named Ah Sahm immigrates from China to San Francisco under mysterious circumstances, and goes to work for a powerful Chinese gang.
Production is set to begin this fall in Cape Town, South Africa.
"I've always admired Bruce Lee for his trailblazing efforts opening doors for Asians in entertainment and beyond," Lin said.
