Chris Pine Is Disappointed You Won't See His 'Hard Work' in 'Wonder Woman'
Chris Pine is starting 2017 on a "clean slate" with a newly shaved head and plenty of excitement for his role in "Wonder Woman" -- even if his really "hard work" will never be seen.
Pine was with the Warner Bros. crew at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Wednesday, teasing his role as Steve Trevor opposite Gal Gadot's Diana Prince in director Patty Jenkins's "Wonder Woman." It's a DC Comics movie, and all superhero movie characters look buff, so you could understand why Pine thought he should look the same. However, he joked to Entertainment Tonight that that was "a major mistake":
"I got in incredible shape for this film. I was also wearing about 75 pounds of clothing. Patty has a fetish, you just like a lot of clothing. You like down coats, winter sweaters. What I realized is that I made a major mistake, I got in great shape and they just put clothes over all my hard work."
Hey, we're perfectly happy for him to show off his "hard work."
Pine previously told Men's Fitness about bulking up for "Wonder Woman" and what he did not want to do:
"You've got Thor, you've got Captain America. These guys are eating 5,000, 7,000 calories, waking up just to eat food, eating 15 meals a day. For your liver, I don't think that's healthy." Instead of traditional weightlifting, Pine told Men's Fitness his personal trainer had him swinging clubbells, kettlebells, dumbbells, and steel to get in shape.
Fully clothed or not, Pine told ET he fell in love with the story of "Wonder Woman," which has love at its center:
"I think what Patty did so intelligently, was she married all these different genres and the beating heart of this film is a real love story, which I don't think we've seen in the superhero canon recently. I think it hearkens back to what Patty loved in the first Superman, and it's just a classic love story and a classic story done well."
"Wonder Woman" opens June 2nd.
