Shooting a Specific 'Cats' Scene Was One of James Corden's 'Strangest Experiences'
It's not every actor who can say they've pretended to be a cat with the likes of Dame Judi Dench and Sir Ian McKellen.
James Corden was able to add that one to his resume after shooting "Cats," and the experience was, well, unique. The "Late Late Show" host recently discussed the film in a Variety interview, and he recalled two days spent on a particular scene that made him question whether or not he was high. In it, he, Dench, and McKellen, joined by Rebel Wilson, Idris Elba, and Taylor Swift, all had to pretend to be cats, and Corden described it as "right up there with the strangest experiences you could ever have."
"There is a very definite moment where you don't know if you're high or not," Corden told Variety. "I'm like, 'I ate some gummies at lunch. Were they actual gummies or is that just marijuana?'"
As the host of "The Late Late Show," Corden has filmed plenty of unusual or out-there scenes for the sake of entertainment. He has served as a backup dancer for Swift (in a midriff-baring shirt, no less), performed "Beauty and the Beast" in a busy Los Angeles intersection, and even recreated "Titanic" in five minutes. The fact that filming this particular "Cats" scene counts as one of his strangest experiences is impressive.
In "Cats," Corden plays Bustopher Jones and is part of a cast that also includes Jennifer Hudson and Jason Derulo. The film is based on the long-running musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber that set records in the West End and on Broadway.
"Cats" production wrapped in April, and the film hits theaters Dec. 20.
