Carrie Fisher Warns 'Force Awakens' Star Daisy Ridley: 'Don't Be a Slave'
Carrie Fisher became an international superstar thanks to her role in the "Star Wars" series, but has found her role as a sex symbol a harder one to play ever since she donned that infamous gold bikini in "Return of the Jedi." In a new story for Interview magazine in which she speaks to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" fresh face Daisy Ridley, Fisher warns the young actress to avoid a similar fate as she continues in the series.
In the interview, Fisher and Ridley chat about "Star Wars" fever, and how Ridley is preparing herself for her soon-to-skyrocket stardom. While Ridley demurred when Fisher told the young actress that moviegoers would soon be fantasizing about her, the woman behind Princess Leia offered Ridley some sage advice about her costuming.
"[Y]ou should fight for your outfit. Don't be a slave like I was," Fisher told Ridley, referring to her scenes as Jabba the Hutt's scantily-clad prisoner in "Jedi."
"All right, I'll fight," Ridley replied.
"You keep fighting against that slave outfit," Fisher continued.
"I will," Ridley promised.
We're glad that Fisher is around to give the young actress pointers, and we're hopeful that it will be Rey's badass action skills that get fans talking, not any questionable clothing that's foisted upon the character. Ridley seemed grateful for that advice, giving some love right back to Fisher.
"[Y]ou're a kick-ass woman," Ridley told Fisher. "... You paved the way for all the girls."
We couldn't agree more.
