The planned "Star Wars" spinoff movie about infamous bounty hunter Boba Fett is dead.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed the project's status to reporter Erick Weber after attending an awards season screening of "Black Panther." Weber said Kennedy told him the company is focusing on "The Mandalorian," the upcoming TV series created by Jon Favreau.

Over the summer, a report by Collider indicated Lucasfilm was pressing pause on more standalone movies after the disappointing box office returns of "Solo."

Boba Fett has been a fan favorite character, despite having very little screen time before dying in the original "Star Wars" movies. Later, "Attack of the Clones" revealed that he was actually the one and only unaltered clone of Jango Fett, who raised Boba as his son.

A movie centered on the character has been rumored and in various stages of existence for many years. But earlier this year, it seemed like it would actually get made, after a report that James Mangold was in talks to write and direct.

Instead, the movie was usurped by "The Mandalorian," which is set after "Return of the Jedi" and follows "the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic." The series will debut at some point in the future on Disney's still-to-launch streaming service.
